Preventive
medicine continues to be a major area of focus for primary care
providers. With what seems to be continual changes and updates to
recommendations, having a go-to resource that organizes, compiles, and easily
helps you care for your patients can be valuable. The Electronic
Preventive Services Selector (ePSS) is both an app and website that has been
designed to do just that.
Specifically,
this resource is built around the most current recommendations of the U.S.
Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). The user can specifically search
for preventive health services that are advised based on factors such as age,
gender, and behavioral risk factors. Additional features can be based
upon user preference, some of which include:
• Searching
USPSTF recommendations by text word
• Email
notifications when new updates/recommendations are published
• Ability
to “bookmark” recommendations or resources as well as saving searches that
are commonly used by individual users
• Access
to other USPSTF preventive tools
• Printable
or email-ready recommendations customized specifically for patients
If
downloading the “app” to a mobile or tablet device, an internet connection is
not needed for routine use after initial installation (the connection would be
needed to receive future updates). Currently it is available for use with
Android, Apple, and Windows based operating systems. Additionally, ePSS can be
accessed directly from the internet via the web (click here: https://epss.ahrq.gov/PDA/index.jsp ), so considering
adding it on your browser as one of your favorites.
