Addiction Consultation Hotline
The UW Addiction Consultation Hotline offers on-call help to health care
providers seeking support and direction in dealing with their patients'
substance abuse problems. Addiction specialists on the hotline provide
advice for long-term and follow-up care and provide counseling. The
hotline is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This hotline is
funded in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Health
Services through legislation enacted as part of the HOPE Agenda.

Family Medicine for America's Health - November 2018 Update
FMAHealth in collaboration with the Patient Centered Primary Care
Collaborative (PCPCC) sponsored, the first national conversation on
increasing investment in primary care on November 9, 2018. The workshop
followed the PCPCC’s Annual Conference where a broad audience was
educated about the importance of increased investment in primary care.
Alex Azar, Secretary of Health and Human Services, spoke about the
importance of primary care and ways in which CMMI would be moving
forward with alternative primary care payment models.

Eliminated vs Eradicated
In November of 2018, a few children contracted chickenpox at the Asheville Waldorf School in Asheville, N.C. By mid-November, a local newspaper reported 36 infections—the largest outbreak in the state since the chickenpox vaccine became available.
Since the introduction of the varicella vaccination in 1995, reported cases of chickenpox have significantly decreased nationwide; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports indicate that the number of cases had fallen about 90%. Yet, in the past few years, some diseases that have become less prevalent, including chickenpox, measles, and pertussis (whooping cough), have resurfaced among under-vaccinated communities, according to researchers at Emory.
