Family medicine clinicians play an important role in preventing and managing lead exposure during pregnancy and early childhood. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) recently updated and expanded its lead and perinatal health resources to support clinicians in identifying risk, blood lead testing, and counseling patients on prevention and follow-up care. They can also be used to educate patients on common sources of lead exposure, health risks during pregnancy, and practical steps to reduce exposure in the home.
